Alone and wounded he traveled the land
Dying yet still his sword in hand
Battle no longer held any glory
With no loved ones to share his story
Alone in the blighted land he tread
He fell to the ground, nearly dead.
Death seeped within his soul
As lightning flashed and thunder rolled
He never saw her alight
He knew only endless night
I was what you made me he cried with a moan
To rightousness I gave blood and bone
Is this how my life ends?
To pass without love a lonely end?
Somewhere in the distant night
She heard his cry and a gleam of light
He never saw when she came
Mind dark and body lame
She knelt beside and whispered sweet
A lifeless heart began to beat
Her soft song entered his soul
Mending wound, a spirit made whole
Many nights she tended him
With soft words spoken as hymns
The knight now rested a peaceful soul
Refreshed in spirit, blood and bone
He opened his eyes to behold the being
A glorious light prevented his seeing
But he sensed more than he saw
The angels wound hidden yet raw
What can I do to help and repay
But the angel remained silent and would not say.
She just smiled, with such beauty the knight wept
So much beauty his heart wept
At last he recovered his blade
Kneeling to the angel, this oath he made
You have healed my spirit soul and mind
You have returned sight to eyes blind
I pledge to you my sword and shield
Never from this promise will I yield
But one more vow to you I give above
To my angel I pledge my love
