For those that don't know the story, last year the US Marine Corps opened a recruiting office in Berkeley, CA. It caused quite a hubbub indeed! The City Council voted to ban Marine recruiting in their city, and sent the Marines an eviction notice.
The Marines had taken the high ground and withstood the Council counter-attack. They held their ground, and the law was ruled unconstitutional by the California Appeals Court. Watch this Daily Show report.
It is unbelievable to me the response to the reporter, an ex-Marine himself. Apparently some of these people never evolved past the 60's.
I would never condemn anyone for their beliefs, especially something as noble as world peace. I am all for it. However, the reality of today's world is intolerance in the name of religion. IMHO, the most dangerous people in the world are those that wish to exterminate anyone that does not believe as they do. Especially if they are willing to sacrifice themselves to take a few non-believers with them.
We have zealots amongst us here at home too, but most of them are content to work through the political process to achieve their agenda of intolerance. Those that do it with guns, bombs, swords, and are sworn to rid the world of infidels need some disincentive to rock my world.
Thank God for the Marines and the other branches of the military who volunteer to make the ultimate sacrifice so these folks can live in their dream world.
