Our new white dove...

Here is the newest addition to our family. We acquired him/her because a neighbor thought they'd buy him from the pet store and set him free. Well, his wings had been clipped, so my children caught him and brought him home. I was going to take him to the bird sanctuary, but after doing some research, I have found that these birds make for very good pets. I've had birds before, so it's not something 100% new to me. They are basically very clean birds, quite docile and they enjoy human companionship. Now, all I need is a name... Some I am tossing about in the air are Chilaili (Native American for snowbird), Chenoa (Native American for white dove), Chloe, and a few others... 100_1270.jpg 100_1271.jpg 100_1273.jpg
This was an assignment I had to do for one of my classes.  Thought I'd share it here...  giddy.gif

Robot type: Automatic Dog Walker AKA PuppyMatic

My robot is an automatic dog walker.

The automatic dog walker can be programmed for up to 20 dogs and will be initialized via one of four methods:
1.     It can sense when the dog needs to go to the bathroom, via sound and activity sensors placed throughout the house. And based on which collar produced certain activities, will call only that dog to the collar latching system.
2.     The owner can initialize via remote control, by pressing the “Call” button and the dog’s number to call the specific dog to the collar latching system.
3.     The system can be placed on a timing system, determined by the owner, and will call each individually programmed dog at designated times.  Timer can be turned on or off via the “T On” or “T Off” buttons.
4.     The dog can initialize by walking up to the collar latching system.

For the first three methods, a whistle will sound to get the dogs attention, his collar will gently vibrate, and a potent smelling, very yummy, healthy snack will be offered to the dog via a little treat tray. The fourth method will not use the treat tray to avoid misuse by the dog just to get treats. Upon initialization, the dog walks up to the collar latching system and gets his treat from the treat tray, if used. The collar latching system automatically detects the size of the dog (in case there’s more than one dog in the home) and latches on to the specially designed collar. If there is more than one dog in the house, the automatic sensors will block any extra dogs from entering through the gateway by detecting the additional collar(s) and creating a field, of sorts, where the dog will be incapable of passing, as long as he’s wearing his collar. Additionally, it will only allow the specified dog to enter the gateway for the snack.

Once the dog is collared, a specially designed doggy door will open, allowing the dog to pass through to the outside of the house. If the dog resists, the system will pull the dog gently through the door to show that he must go out. The doggy door will automatically close behind the dog. Once outside, the leashing system will allow the dog to roam freely, the length of the house. The leash itself, will be a twenty foot retractable leash, connected to the system that runs the length of the house. At any time, the owner can press the “Retrieve” button, either on the unit itself, or via remote control, that will automatically bring the dog back to the doggy door for reentry. Also, on a timed system, the dog will automatically be brought back for reentry so that the next dog may go out. If not brought back automatically, or by the owner, the system will detect when the dog comes back to the door and allow him to enter.

Once reentry is made, the collar latching system will automatically release the dog, who then can roam freely throughout the house.

Additionally, the dog collars are equipped with sensors to know when a dog has made a bowel movement, and the automatic pooper scooper will be deployed to retrieve the doggy poop, and package it a small baggy, which is then sealed.  The sealed bags are then deposited into the lined “poopster can” that the owner can periodically empty to the trash by just lifting out the trash liner, tying, and removing, then replacing with a new liner.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Authorities said on Thursday that they are seeking a search warrant for the Orlando home of a missing 3-year-old girl after a child's remains were found nearby. Orange County sheriff's spokesman Carlos Padilla said that investigators cordoned off the home belonging to the grandparents of Caylee Anthony, who lived at the home with her mother, Casey Anthony, although the two often stayed elsewhere. An Orange County water meter reader found the skeletal remains of a child around 9:30 a.m. Thursday in a wooded area while taking a bathroom break near South Chickasaw Trail and Suburban Drive, less than half a mile from the Hopespring Drive home of George and Cindy Anthony, Local 6 News reported. Orange County Sheriff Kevin Beary confirmed that the skull of a child had been recovered. Deputies said it's too early to tell if the remains, which were later taken away in a medical examiner's van, are that of Caylee. Local 6 News reporter Jessica D'Onofrio confirmed that the remains are likely that of a girl. D'Onofrio said the worker saw the garbage bag, opened it, saw the remains of a child and called 911. The skull was found nearby, and there was duct tape in and around the garbage bag, D'Onofrio reported. "Deputies did respond to that area, and once we were on the scene, we determined that we do have the remains of a young child. Obviously, our concern is that it's in close proximity to some recent activity in that part of the county, and it's incumbent upon us to determine what we have," said Orange County sheriff's spokesman Jim Solomons, referring to the Casey Anthony case. The age and gender of the remains are not known. The area of the discovery has been blocked off, and FBI agents, along with sheriff's detectives, continue to investigate the wooded area. Tim Miller, the leader of EquuSearch, a Texas-based group that has performed numerous searches for Caylee's body, said he talked with FBI agents, who told him that they believe the remains belong to Caylee. "It would be inappropriate to speculate," Orange County sheriff's Capt. Angelo Nieves said. "Our investigators are on scene, evaluating and processing the situation. It's very early." Nieves said that George and Cindy Anthony have been notified about the discovery. Casey Anthony's attorney, Jose Baez, filed an emergency motion on Thursday to participate in forensic testing on the remains, if they are determined to be that of Caylee. The hearing will be held Friday at 11:30 a.m. at the Orange County courthouse. Casey Anthony will not attend the hearing. Leonard Padilla, a bounty hunter who initially bailed Casey Anthony out of jail and has searched for Caylee, said, "It's a bittersweet day." "We drove by (the wooded area where the remains were found) dozens of times. We heard that there were searches going on in that area," Padilla said. An elementary school is located nearby, forcing officials to devise a plan for getting students home without interfering with the crime scene. Local 6 News showed buses transporting students from Hidden Oaks Elementary at about 3 p.m. Thursday through the area, which is lined with crime tape. Cindy Anthony first called authorities in July to say she hadn't seen Caylee for a month and her daughter's car smelled like death. Police immediately interviewed Casey Anthony and said that everything she told them about her Caylee's whereabouts was false. Casey Anthony said she left Caylee with a baby sitter named Zenaida Gonzalez at an Orange County apartment complex, and the two were missing when she returned to pick up Caylee. Detectives said the baby sitter was nonexistent and the apartment where Anthony said she had last seen Caylee had been empty for months. Anthony also lied about where she worked, detectives said. As the case unfolded, troubling details emerged. Photos of Anthony partying after her daughter went missing surfaced. Friends said she was a habitual liar, but they also said that she was a good mother. Earlier this month, the Orange County state attorney turned over almost 800 pages of documents, which showed someone at the Anthony home had done Internet searches for terms like "neck breaking" and "household weapons." In mid-March, someone used the Anthonys' home laptop to search Google and Wikipedia for peroxide, shovels, acetone, alcohol and chloroform. Traces of chloroform, which is used to induce unconsciousness and also a component of human decomposition, were found in the trunk of Casey Anthony's car during forensic testing, the documents said. Orange County jail officials also released several hours of videotapes of visits between Casey Anthony and her family from July and August, when she was arrested on neglect and other counts but before she was charged with first-degree murder. During the taped visits, Anthony's parents tell her they're trying hard to find the little girl. Anthony does not appear to add information to aid that search beyond her account that a baby sitter took the girl. Last week, prosecutors announced they would not pursue the death penalty for Anthony. The Orange County State Attorney's Office said in a news release last week that "it is not in the best interest of the people of the state of Florida" to pursue the death penalty against Anthony.
ORLANDO, Fla. -- Orange County Sheriff Kevin Beary on Thursday said human remains discovered in wooded area near the home of George and Cindy Anthony are "a very strong lead in solving the case" involving Caylee Anthony, who was last seen in mid-June.

Blah fkkity fkk fkk

Okay, so here it is... Two days before Thanksgiving. While I try my damndest to be thankful of everything I DO have... I still can not help but to think of what I don't have, and the crap that has been happening. So, I'm just going to get it out of my system, and hope it works. So, Friday, I get laid off my job. A permanent layoff. So, I have a new baby in the house and no job. That's just great, eh? And, right before the holidays?? How freaking nice is that? I got a decent severance package, but what do I do about Christmas? Use all the last money I'll get from my job to give the kids a Christmas? I mean, I do qualify for unemployment, but as many people know, it only goes so far. So, either I give the kids a nice Christmas, or save the money for things we really need. With the economy the way it is, who knows how long it'll be before I find another job. And, when I do, I'll be starting all over again from the bottom. This SOOOO sucks. Another thing, I found out today that I have CIN II cells in my cervix. Which is grade 2 abnormal cells. That doesn't mean I have cancer, but if they don't get the abnormal cells out, it could turn into cancer. Lovely news, eh? blah.... So, since I got laid off, my insurance runs out on Sunday. So, the doctor scheduled me for a LEEP procedure tomorrow to remove the abnormal cells. If you don't know what a LEEP procedure is, a LEEP uses a thin wire loop electrode which is attached to an electrosurgical generator. The generator transmits a painless electrical current that quickly cuts away the affected cervical tissue in the immediate area of the loop wire. Then, they send the tissue to be tested for cancer. But, hopefully, I don't have to worry about all that. {keeping my fingers crossed} Cause if there is anything else wrong, I won't have the insurance to cover it. That sucks, doesn't it? But, it's life, what can you do? Okay, so on to the next thing. I found out this morning that my aunt has cancer. I don't know yet what kind or to what extent. But, this totally sucks. She's my mom's sister, and I love her to death. So, hopefully the docs can take care of that quickly, but who knows with cancer? So, all that on top of one my bestest friends in the world having cancer. I pray every day that he gets well. I'm still trying to figure out, why is it the nice people that always get shit on? Sooooo... I guess I'm grateful that I still got my kids and family, a roof over my head, and food in our stomachs. That's the most important stuff, right?

Kids' Vote Announced

Obama wins Scholastic News election poll

By Jack Greenberg | October 14 , 2008

It's official. At least for the kids! The Scholastic Presidential Election Poll results are in: Democratic nominee Senator Barack Obama won with 57 percent of the vote, to 39 percent for Republican nominee Senator John McCain.

The poll was open to kids from grades 1 to 12 in Scholastic News and Junior Scholastic magazines. Almost 250,000 (a quarter of a million) kids voted by paper ballot or online at www.scholastic.com/news. The poll closed on October 10.

Since 1940, the results of the student vote have mirrored the outcome of the general election all but twice: In 1948, kids voted for Thomas E. Dewey over Harry S. Truman. In 1960, more students voted for Richard M. Nixon than for John F. Kennedy. In 2000, a majority of student voters chose George W. Bush, mirroring the Electoral College result, but not the result of the popular vote.

Obama and McCain weren't the only vote getters. Four percent of the students voted for other people like comedian Stephen Colbert, and entertainers Miley Cyrus, and the Jonas Brothers. It was the highest percent of write-in votes in the history of the poll. Some even voted for themselves. Most of the write-in votes —11 percent of the 4 percent—were for Senator Hillary Clinton.

So why is a kid poll important? And does it mean anything come November 4? Kid Reporter Lya Ferreyra knows.

"Not only does [voting in the] poll give kids the experience they will need to vote in the future, but it allows them to have input on who should be the next President of the United States," she said. "It gives kids a voice, which is important, but we won't know the actual outcome until November 4. No one can predict that."

Ferreyra and this reporter both appeared on numerous news programs this week to announce the poll results.

Results from key swing states are as follows:

Who are the severely toxic people?
They are the ones who complain all the time. They are the ones who always blame you. They may always turn things around so things you felt they had done wrong are suddenly your fault. They overreact to bad events.

They drain your energy. It may be that they get you to spend a lot of time and emotional strength trying to cheer them up. They may bombard you with their negativity so that you have to spend energy trying to fend it off. Perhaps their constant pessimism infects you, or they always make you angry. They may be leeches who feed themselves by making you give them your positivity.  This person can literally suck the life out of you.

Toxic People in Your Life
Do you know someone who always makes you feel depressed, angry or just plain tired? Think about this person. Is he or she a complainer, or someone who always expects things to go wrong, or someone who constantly finds fault with you? Does he or she always seem more cheerful after ranting to you? If any one or more of these is the case, you likely have a toxic person on your hands.

If you have an easy way to get this person entirely out of your life, you'll be better off instantly.

Ultimately, the answer is that you can't change the other person's behavior, but you can change your own. If someone you know always triggers depression, anger or tiredness in you, examine how you react when the negativity starts and see if changing your reaction helps. If your reaction doesn't contribute to the problem, or you can't make such a change, find a way to lessen this person's presence in your life. It will be good for your health.

Fight Fire with Fire
This may be a little childish, but play a little game of "Monkey See, Monkey Do." A toxic person hates it when they get a dose of their own medicine. Make a guilt trip expert feel guilty for something that they're trying to do. Be needy towards a needy person. Be soulless towards a person with no soul. This will back a toxic person off better than anything else and give you the upper hand.

And if none of these options work and all else fails...

Clean House

Don't postpone happiness!

So - your life is not perfect. You have a multitude of things going wrong. The dark cloud may have a very faint silver lining. But you could still be happy.

So    your life is not perfect. You have a multitude of things going wrong. The dark cloud may have a very faint silver lining.

But you could still be happy. Happiness lives in you, for you and with you. There's always scope for happiness.

Happiness helps you heal, it helps infuse hope and does away with anxiety. Luxury? Ah no! Happiness is a necessity.

It's perfectly okay to be imperfect. It's okay to have had a bad day. It's okay not to climb the next rung on the ladder of success. Be happy anyway.

Why look for reasons to be happy? Do you look for reasons to exist? It's when you're not happy that you need to look for reasons. Good reasons to be the way you are.

Every moment that you spend in not being happy is a wasted moment in your life. Not a single of those moments will return. You can't relive any of them    for better or worse.

Have you a lot of things to do before you can lie back and be happy? Happiness is the ultimate triumph in life. Life in it's blazing glory.

Happiness. Don't postpone it by a single minute    no matter what's pending. This moment and every other that follows. It is the time to be happy.

Don't ever put happiness on hold. Just hold onto happiness.
