Nothin but lentils and ... what else did I eat this week? Oh, and some leftover oats for variety. Now let me say this about lentils... -Non Foodies, you can check out here- The beauty of Lentils is that they adhere to any damn broth you're using. If I've got some spare chicken parts- I've got chicken soup lentils If I'm trying to get rid of this ... GIANT JUG OF BEEF BOULION then I've got beef flavored. A big friggin hunk of bone-in ham- hey, I'm set. I'm gonna try cookin it WITH my shank recipes... see where that takes me. Anyway- point is kids for about every 1 1/2 cups of lentils, sorted, rinsed, and inspected give em about 4 cups of your favorite broth- about 2-4 cups of meat, I put in about a table spoon of my favorite red pepper 1/2-1 table spoon (and maybe a couple seeds) of cumin a bit of salt, a bit of pepper about a table spoon of garlic salt but DAMN IT there's plenty of room for adjustment and additions. I've had this same white onion for... a damn long time, dunno what I'm holding onto it for... but yeah, bring it all up to a simmer/gentle boil, take it down to low or about ... 250 and cook it with a tilted lid for 20-30 minutes. Me, I usually go for 30. Stirring occasionally. Let it cool, serve. I suppose you could pure` if you had the inclination or the equipment, me I don't see the need. I think a few splashes of hot sauce, and maybe some butter is appropriate, along with salt and pepper to taste, of course. But yeah, that's my new soup recipe, simple, dietarily sound, and life sustaining. I haven't taken a multivitamin all week, I feel like a golden god on this soup. 2 hearty servings. At least, that's what I say. Did I leave anything out? Nah, its all good My rolled oats experiment is thus: 1 cup oats 2/3 cups boiling water combine wait 5 minutes (covered) Pinch of salt pinch of freshly crushed or freshly course ground fennel seeds Combine eat. It's fuckin delicious. I KNOW! ...there's like 800 instant oatmeals out there flavored with strawberries, peaches, bananas, cinnamon, and cream. ... I like it savory. I'm lookin up mutton+oats recipes as we speak... NOT THAT I CAN FUCKING GET MUTTON IN THIS GOD DAMN COUNTRY!!! ... I'm sorry, was that irish of me? *shrugs* Get me a job. Get me a girl. I got the cooking thing goin on in the mean time. Oh yeah and tomorrow I'm having some tumeric+dill fried rice. I dunno, Dill works with small grains and pastas like couscous and rice *shrugs* delicious. The only real pain in the ass, now that I've resolved to start working with dried beans is the sorting and inspecting. Cest la vie, they are delicious and nutritious enough to be worth it, non? That's right... I just blogged about food. WHOA DAMN!!! ... *shrugs* I'm out of food again, so it's pretty much D-day on duck. We knocked out beans this week... duck... duck is next. Con fit` broth grilled *scratches his beard* With ONE carcass. MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA!!! Okay... maybe just grilled and broth. I don't have $11 of olive oil to use right now.
