FIRST ANNUAL AWARD

BBW ACHIEVEMENT AWARD FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE July 21, 2008 Las Vegas, NV - The first annual BBW Achievement Awards were presented by Cher Rue, size acceptance advocate and Vice President of Hollywood Cure For Pain at the 12th Annual BBWnetwork's Vegas Bash Formal Dinner held Saturday night in Las Vegas, NV. Ms. Rue created this award to recognize outstanding support in the plus size community. The first two recipients of this award are JoAnn Bellemore, founder and organizer of the BBW Network's Vegas Bash and Peggy Howell, Public Relations Director for the National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance (NAAFA) and owner of chunkEbusiness. com, an art gallery and gift shop dedicated to the plus size community. JoAnn Bellemore founded the BBW Network's Vegas Bash in 1996. Their first bash saw 26 people come together to celebrate life at whatever their size. JoAnn and her husband Darwin have continued to work diligently every year to make their event the best possible experience their community can have. The 10th anniversary celebration saw 1300 people of all sizes gather from all over the world for the largest size acceptance event in the world. Peggy Howell and her partners created www. chunkEbusiness. com in 2001 to make available a variety of art and gift items depicting fat people in a positive, sometimes whimsical manner. Their goal is to remind people of size of their own beauty. Surrounding oneself with beautiful images of fat people can be a very empowering experience. In January, 2005 Howell joined the Board of Directors of NAAFA, utilizing her advertising and promotions background as the Public Relations Director. Howell works diligently with NAAFA to help put an end to discrimination against people of size. Bellemore and Howell appeared on the July 5, 2005 episode of Good Morning America representing the size acceptance community and speaking out against discrimination. Discrimination based on weight has increased 66% in the past decade and is common in both institutional and interpersonal situations — and is even more prevalent than rates of discrimination based on gender and race in some cases. These ladies have dedicated their lives to helping improve the lives of fat people the world over. Next year's awards will be chosen by Mrs. Bellemore and Ms. Howell and sponsored and presented by Ms. Rue. On the web: www. naafa. org www. bbwnetwork. com www. chunkebusiness. com
