I was diagnosed with a herniated lumbar disk (L5, S1 the lowest in the back between the pelvis and the spine) and degenerative disk disease back in 2003. Since then I recently had another MRI and told my disk situation is getting worse. Right now I get around with the use of a cane, which doesn't bother me. The problem I need help on is this: I went to another neurosurgeon today (been to 3 so far 1 was cut happy, the other two had the same results) and the results are that I'm a high risk surgery, and there is permanent nerve damage in the left leg, to the point I can't even feel pain stimulus and the reflexes are totally gone. If I get the surgery there is no guarantee this will solve my back issues, it may make them worse (doctor said the risk is high and he can't repair the nerve damage). So should I spend more money and get a FOURTH opinion or just live with the results as they are. |
