PHOENIX -- The Arizona Diamondbacks have reached agreement on a one-year, US$1.75 million contract with 41-year-old right-hander Takashi Saito. The former all-star went 4-2 with a 2.03 earned-run average in 30 relief appearances for the NL Central-champion Milwaukee Brewers last season. Saito is 21-15 with 84 saves and a 2.18 ERA over parts of six seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston, Atlanta and Milwaukee. Opponents have hit .199 against him with 389 strikeouts and 103 walks in 322 games. Saitos best season was as a Dodgers closer in 2006, when he had 47 saves in 50 opportunities. The signing was the latest in a series of moves intended to bolster the pitching staff of the reigning NL West champions. The team acquired right-handed starter Trevor Cahill and left-handed reliever Craig Breslow in a five-player deal with Oakland. On Tuesday, Arizona signed right-hander Jonathan Albaladejo to a one-year, $490,000 contract. Albaladejo pitched in Japan last season after appearing in 10 games for the New York Yankees in 2010. Saito brings experience and the ability to help in various situations, Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers said. "Takashi brings a great veteran presence to our bullpen and strengthens an area where we already feel very good about our options," Towers said. "He has closed, been a set-up man and is versatile enough to fill any role." Since 2006, Saito ranks fifth among relievers with a 2.18 ERA. In 10 post-season games, he is 1-0 with a 1.69 ERA. He spent 14 seasons with Yokohama of the Japanese Central League before coming to the United States. Saito will be the first Japanese player to play for the Diamondbacks. Vernon Davis Elite Jersey . The second-seeded former world No. 1 Nadal routed 21st-seeded American Andy Roddick 6-2, 6-1, 6-3, while the world No. 4 Murray dismissed towering 28th-seeded American John Isner 7-5, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (7-2) in 3 hours, 24 minutes at Arthur Ashe Stadium. Nadal, who has yet to drop a set at this fortnight, raced out to a 4-0 lead in the first set, including a pair of breaks against the big-serving Roddick, and simply sailed the rest of the way to the finish line on Day 12. The second and third sets were all Nadal, as well, as the top-four seeds all reached the final four here this week. A hobbled Roddick nursed a left thigh injury in the lopsided setback and succumbed on Nadals second match point, an easy forehand winner. The American managed to hold his serve for the remainder of the stanza, which he won in surprising fashion to extend the bout. A tight fourth set went to a tiebreak, which Murray dominated and closed out when Isner netted one fiinal forehand return.dddddddddddd Murray could manage only two service breaks on Friday, while Isner settled for just one in a losing effort. The players combined for 31 aces, including 17 from the American. "He put a ton of pressure on me," Murray said. "It was a relief to win that fourth-set breaker."
