I have surcumbed to depression a number of times in my life. I have mild obsessive / compulsive disorder, which is fun. All that means is that when i am stressed / having problems with life, I find the small things (cleanliness, order) very important.
I actually think this is a byproduct of human life though - and see many people illiciting teh same behaviours.
My question is this - are modern day disorders & medications genuine? There ARE genuine disorders that require treatment, it just seems taht society likes to pigeon hole us into one dysfunctional group or another.
Bi-polar - feeling up one minute, down the next - depression, lethargy, isn't that just life? aren't we just making excuses so we don't have to tackle life and resolve our problems? aren't we just giving these symptoms of life a medical definition, becasue we can't face the fact that life isn't always a bed of roses?
I am sure I will get a lot of responses saying 'i have this.. my firend has that...' i'm looking at the deeper issue - we are scared to accept life isn't great so we accept these 'disorders' to explain why we are depressed.
