What are you waiting for?

Are we losing America a piece at a time??? Every now and then I see something that bothers me as a person and as an American. There have been numerous occasions over my life span where I just couldn’t remain silent. This is just one of them. Recently I read about a restaurant in Philadelphia where the city council ordered the owner to remove a sign that read "Only English spoken here". He doesn’t have the right to put a sign like that up on his property, or does he? I really do not know any more what rights will be left to us. Maybe the owner knows only English. Do we have to learn every spoken and written language in the world to accommodate every one in the world just so we don’t offend anyone? What do you think? Here is what I feel. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I respect every ones rights and I think we should respect the sanctity of a nation. I believe very strongly in The Golden Rule. I believe in "When in ’Rome’ be respectful of the people and their customs" (my paraphrasing). Why go to live in another country to have a better way of life (other wise why would you leave where you were?) if you want to make that new country like where you come from? How would that give you a better way of life if you make it the same as what you ran from? If I were to go to Italy or a Spanish speaking country I might be run out of that country if I tried to force them to speak English. This is assuming they would allow me to live. I just want to make this point clear because I believe this would really happen. I would be very disrespectful if I did this in another country. If I went to live in another country I would want to learn their language and customs while I retained my own for myself and family. And, here I would welcome and respect those new Americans rights and customs as long as they do not try to make me over in their image. For the greater part of our history immigrants have come here not knowing English and they did what they should have to become Americans, they learned our language and culture. I see nothing wrong with immigrants here retaining their native languages and customs; it’s their God given right. After all, over the course of our history, this country was founded and developed by immigrants and the children of immigrants. But do not tell me, in my own country, I have to speak a language I do not know, whether it be business or personal. In other words, "DO NOT TREAD ON ME" in my own country. If you are allowed to (to tell me what language I must speak and listen to) then what other rights will be taken from us Americans, what ever our national or ethnic origin??? If you can do that, be you a US government or local official or a foreigner, then what rights have are our GIs been fighting for since 1776? What has been the point to them dying in our wars? George Bush has already weakened OUR Constitution (without our permission I would add) and he called those actions security measures. Our founding fathers said "If you give up liberty for the sake of security then you deserve neither one". But, to be fair, in this case, it is a matter of not wanting to infringe on others rights all at the expense of American rights. As long as we allow our Government to do these things to our country (it is ours and not the US Governments, they work for us), whatever the rights infringements are and not just this one, our government will be giving our country away faster then we will be able to say, I object". So who really is the biggest enemy to the American way of life? Our founding fathers would tell us to stop this. Hopefully it would be nonviolently. It really is up to us if we do not wait to long. Once it goes beyond that point of no return we would have no one to blame but the former "WE, THE PEOPLE…". We already kicked God out of our schools and government buildings. Yes, we did that because we allowed it. Where does it end? God help us, please. Just maybe America grew to be the greatest people country the world has ever seen because of OUR rights, THE US CONSTITUTION with THE BILL OF RIGHTS, as it was given to us by our founding fathers and the blood, sweat and tears of WE THE PEOPLE who have to defend it from all enemies, both foreign and domestic. There has to be some reason that makes the US who we are. Let’s not allow it to be who we were. That wouldn’t be good for anybody, new or multi generational Americans alike.
