I was explaining to some of the guys at work my opinions on certain things and they told me that Im an asshole. I kinda see their point, but they dont really understand what I mean. Here Ill lay out some examples
First one was the last shooting in Illinois. I told them that I didnt really care that much about it because its becoming more and more regular and even though 7 or so people died, in the amount of time that we talked about it 1000s more people died around the world that never made the news. So I asked what made those 7 people more important than the 1000s that died from the hundreds of other causes.
Second one that I had went off on was the girl that went missing in Aruba that keeps getting on the news. I dont understand why anyone still really pays attention to that. How many people have gone missing since then that havent been on the news? I think its an insult to every missing person thats come since that happened to go back and talk about old news. Just last year we had a girl from one of the local colleges go missing and it didnt even get on national news. Why was the one in Aruba so much more important? Was it because her family has a lot more money maybe?
Anyways, all my point was is that there are 6 billion people on this planet that Im never going to meet and thousands of them die every day. If you get all butthurt over each single death you are never going to live a full meaningfull life.. and if you are one of those people that pick and choose certain deaths to feel bad about that make the news then you are an idiot. Either grieve for everyone equally or shut the fuck up.
So am I coldhearted? |
