Comic books shaped my life, It may sound crazy to some but its true. I grew up in a single parent home passed back and forth between my Mother and Grandmother, comics were a source of moral fabric in the early developement of my life that I am forever in the gratitude of. They taught me how to be a good person without being a conservative Nazi. Batman and Captain America taught me how to survive through pain when the odds are stacked against you. X-Men taught me tolerance and acceptance of others, while giving hope to myself and others who are differant themselves. Over the years I would come to grow into a young Punk Rock kid. Books began to come out like the Dark Knight Returns, Watchman, Miracle Man, Swampthing, and the Crow. These adult oriented books would ensure that I would continue to love comics through out the years to come. These stories tackled issues of emotion, political corruption, goverment, and the harsh cruelties of the decay and despair of our society. It would further develope over the years and mature labels like DC's Vertigo would arise turning Sandman, Constantine, and others into household names. You can see the evidence into todays society as more and more movies are made every year, even cult stories become movies in this age. This phenominon has let me know Im not alone in my feelings. Our society in the new millenium is so largely influenced by this counter culture its hard to ignore. We the freek and geek children of the 80's have left our mark on the world just as comic books left their mark on us!
