In my wandering mind, I got to thinking of the ATF, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms. I've often thought this would have to be the coolest of the Governmental Agency, I mean who doesn't like Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms really? But I started thinking, ok I know there is a definite mission to fight against Alcohol, it is after all the whole basis for NASCAR today, even if they don't want you to think about it.
(Check out this story on Sam Adams breaking the law) Firearms are certainly a problem as well, plenty of illegal doings going on there, you need someone keeping an eye on that. There isn't a lot of talk about big Tobacco raids though, you don't see news releases on the war on Colombian Tobacco Farmers. Is it time to take the T out of the ATF?
Curiously driven, I went to the ATF site, and right there on the front page was this article:
FORMER PUYALLUP TRIBAL COUNCIL MEMBER AND SMOKE SHOP OWNER SENTENCED FOR CONTRABAND CIGARETTE SCHEME
Couple Cheating State out of Millions of Dollars in Cigarette Taxes
So I suppose even though we don't hear about the trenches, the war continues.
Oh, and if you are insanely curious, the ATF has a
Kids Page for all you future G-Men.
