DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- Mike Bumgarner, crew chief for the No. 5 Chevrolet driven by Kyle Busch in the NASCAR Busch Series, has been fined $10,000 for an infraction last weekend at Kansas Speedway.
After Busch won the race, NASCAR inspectors discovered an unapproved intake manifold. The part was taken to NASCAR's Research and Development Center in Concord, N.C., where the violation was confirmed.
Car owner Rick Hendrick said after Wednesday's announcement by NASCAR that the Hendrick Motorsports team will appeal the fine.
``To say we're confused about this situation would be an understatement,'' Hendrick said. ``The intake manifold that the team used was legal and we look forward to presenting the facts to the National Stock Car Racing Commission.''
