A Letter To A Fallen Soldier
I searched for you over the horizon,
remembering way back when,
you went away and said goodbye
never to return again.
I knew it was part of your job
and the risk was always there
but this was your third tour
and it's really not fair.
Your first two were in Iraq,
where it all began, but then
you were pulled out of there
and sent to Afghanistan.
The president promised
to bring you back, by the end
of his second year, now he's going
on his fourth and still you're not here.
Now I'm all alone
with nothing but memories
of what was yet to be,
I wish I could turn back the hands of time
and tell you how much you mean to me.
He never served our country
so there's something I'd like to know
would he do things differant
if his daughters had to go ?
