Geish Esbat In Service of MISERY's blog: "Food for thought"

A couple was walking along the shoreline one evening. The night was cool and pleasant and they were in love. As they walked along they talked softly to each other, with a light heart and happy mind. They continued to walk until they came upon a bend in the beach. As they turned the bend and looked at the beach spread before them, they stopped. In silence they looked upon the shore to find hundreds of fish… beached and dying. As far as they could see. They continued to walk, and continued to pass more and more fish that were dead or gasping for air about to die. The woman looked at her man and said “This is horrible” He nodded in agreement. “Let’s just keep walking” he said.  The couple continued down the shore, expecting that the next turn would bring a clear and clean beach. Instead, they found only the same thing. Dead fish, and those that were still dying. As they continued walking they watched as the sea gulls gorged themselves on the fish.  Until, under the moonlight, the woman stopped. She looked at the thousands of fish dying and dead on the shore and paused… “Hold on a minute” she said. Then bent down and picked up a fish that was desperately flipping. She held it in her hands and walked to the sea. Lowered the fish into the water and patiently waited for it gently swim free of her grasp, out to the open ocean. She smiled, stood up and then returned to her man who watched her with a confused look on his face. “Why did you do that?” He asked “All these fish are going to die, we can’t save them… it doesn’t matter!” She looked into his eyes and said “To that ONE…. It mattered.”   -Unknown-

We should all remember, that even when hopelessly out matched, even when we face insurmountable odds, there is still value in doing something that “doesn’t matter”. If it only helps 1 person over the course of our life… it’s worth the effort.
