its been a long while since i last posted one of these. a lot has happened to me these last few months, and i do mean alot! to those close to me i appologize. as of a month ago i decided i will be heading to iraq and afghanistan. yeah i know stupid huh. keep reading as i will get to reasons as to why i wont be going over as a soldier (i wish cause they get to kill). i will be heading over as a non combatant. a combat photographer. i have decided that i need to do this. thats right. i will be the guy you see on the news running around behind the soldiers snapping pictures of them in action. i have many friends that are serving over there, and have even had a few that have been killed by ied's (roadside bombs). when i talk to them they seem very distant eomtionally. disconnected is a better word. they live under highly stressful situations and some have even told me that friends they grew up with have stopped talking to them since they went overseas. ot only do they have to fight battles over there, but they also have wars to fight over here. what i am wanting to do is show people what it is like to live the day in the life of a soldier. show the world the humanity and compassion that these soldiers have, but at the same time i want to show the world what its like to be the target of hatred. as of last week i got an email from a friend who has informed me he will be returning home on medical leave due to a sniper attack. we had a laugh at how bad the snipers shot was as my friend is still alive. this leave will be the first time he has seen his new daughter. i will be there when his flight lands to capture that moment of him walking accross the tarmack to his wife and newborn. let me get this out right now. i am not a supporter of this bush oil war (bring on the boos)! i am, however, a loyalist to my country and will support the troops who serve locally as well as abroad! the canadian flag is tattooed on my flesh for a reason. i agree that this is a war on terrorism but there is more to it. bush is greedy just like his father. i think its imbred into them. this war was just the excuse he needed to get back over and finnish things his dad didnt have the oppertunity to complete. his veins are filled with the black crude. for those who know me will argue that this decision is tainted as i grew up as the son of an airforce SIU (special investigations unit) master warrent officer, but i have to tell you something. they dont agree with my choice here. they feel i am putting myself in harms way for no valid reason. this is fair enough, but i feel i really need to do this now while i have no kids to leave behind. thats it for now. i will keep everyone posted.
