Interests
Like I said, I'm in a wheelchair(feel free to ask me any questions you have about that,I'm not ashamed of it.) I'm a devoted Christian. I'm also a die hard Twilight fan.
Some people have asked me how I could be a fan of a vampire series if I'm a Christian. Well here is why-
Christian supporters of the Twilight series point to the fact that several of the characters hold to Christian faith. Edward's father, Carlisle Cullen, was not only raised by a pastor, but was one himself. The book discusses how his faith actually made him rise above the nature of a vampire to become a doctor and save people. He strives to hold onto a little bit of humanity, and he passed that onto the members of his family.
The discussion of what happens after we die is a central theme to the books, though it is only discussed outright later in the series. While Carlisle believes that there is an afterlife, and that possibly vampires aren't damned, Edward is more skeptical. He believes that they will be punished for what they are, and he does not want that to happen to Bella. It is his questions that makes him confront Bella's cavalier attitude about losing her soul. The theme is an excellent discussion point for parents and teens who do read the books, because they can apply to the choices Christian teens make every day.
Pro-life Christians may also find the unwanted pregnancy in the series to be of great interest. While this pregnancy puts the life of a main character in grave danger, her decision is to keep the baby. For people who are pro-choice the discussion remains. The choice was given to the character to "take care of it," and she made the choice.
The desire of Bella to become a vampire is controversial, but the way it is handled appeases many Christians. The main characters of the novels were not "changed" by choice, but changed by circumstance. This theme is important to the Christian life, because we must know how to face our circumstances and hold onto our faith. The desire of Edward to not change Bella demonstrates to many Christians just how precious the soul is, and how he does not want to take away a viable human life. In Edward's case, he was going to die anyhow, and that is when Carlisle changed him. The Cullens value human life, and it is a lesson many people today can learn.
The debate about the sexual nature of the characters continues between opponents and proponents of the Twilight saga. While Edward is against sex before marriage, Bella is willing to hand over her virginity. Her fear of marriage stems from what many teens today face - the divorce of her parents and the effect it had on her mother.
There was only one thing I was conflicted about after reading the series.I saw it as a very sad and tragic ending. From Bella's point of view, she didn't seem to care whether she was putting her soul in jeopardy or not by asking Edward to turn her into a vampire, all she cared about was being with him. She put Edward above God and the value of her immortal soul. And as a Christian,I think that is wrong. If Edward had not given into the temptation to turn Bella,Yes,she would have died. But,Edward and the Cullens would have still been able to find a way to save themselves from the vampire curse. The entire reason Carlisle raised the Cullens the way he did-not drinking human blood was because he believed in God and that they still had a chance for redemption despite what they were. But by Edward turning Bella,he went against everything the Cullen family stands for and what he swore he would never do. That put ,both his and Bella's soul in jeopardy. Even if they all became mortal and died,Bella and Edward would still have spent eternity in heaven with eachother.I know what some Twilight fans are thinking- "By Edward turning Bella, they will spend eternity on earth with eachother." Well, earth won't even last forever.Surely, vampires, of all people, know that. What happens after the earth passes away? And what is the point of spending eternity with the one you love if you spend it in a place where love does not exist(Hell)? On top of that, they still have Renesmee. They would still live on through her.Thats what children are all about--a peice of each parent living on.THAT is true immortality.Unlike the rest of the Cullens,Bella had a CHOICE and made it the moment she met Edward, long before she was about to die. So just because Edward did it to "save her life" is irrelavent. She had already made the choice long before that, forgetting her soul.I didnt, particularly like the way Rosalie treated Bella. But, I agreed with her on one thing. She said "Bella, you still have a choice and you're choosing wrong. There is one thing you will want more than Edward. One thing you'll kill for-blood." I think she was right. And Bella just blew it off. When you think about it-Bella, is the "villain" of this story. Unlike other vampire stories, where the vampire is trying to corrupt the human and steal his or her virtue, Bella is trying to corrupt Edward by manipulating him to go against everything he believes he should not do-1. sleep with her before marriage and 2. Turn her into a vampire. What does everyone think?I'd just like to say, this does not change the way I feel about Twilight,I still love it.But as a Christian, this is WHY I love it.Because makes us think about the most valuable lesson of all--the value of our souls.
I'm also an avid blogger and will be posting all my old blogs ASAP. So if you like blogs, feel free to commentOk, what else? I can't think of anything right now. It took forever to fill up this profile with info last time so I'm sure it will this time too.
Music
I'm pretty versatile as far as music.I like all kinds. Mostly classic rock-The Doors, Pink Floyd, Metallica,The Eagles. I think the last good rock band was Metallica.I'm sorry but rock went down hill after that.I'll listen to anything that takes any kind of vocal or instrumental talent.Which, does not include rap. I know some people regard rap as a form of poetry. But, being a writer myself, I don't see how many words you can rhyme with "Bitch" to make up a decent song. Which is pretty much the majority of rap music these days lol.And I won't listen to hard core punk rock.I mean seriously, how much vocal and instrumental talent does it take to jump around like a monkey on crack while screaming at the top of your lungs and banging minor chords on a guitar? All I get out of that is a migraine lol.
Movies
Too many to mention. I'm too tired right now. So I'll complete this section of my profile later
Idols
Michael Jackson, Bruce Lee, A few others to be mentioned later when I'm not tired lol
Video Games
I used to not be much of a gamer. However, a friend of mine got me into it recently. Gears of War, most of those "shoot em' up" games. As he calls it lol.
