..when I saw this in the paper today, I thought it was just disgusting. How can we let this go on, going into the holiday season? Think about all of the instability going on right now: A very unstable job market, a terrible housing slump bought on by tricky loans and mortgage payments that led people to believe that they could afford that $250,000 home in a swamp or a sand dune with high insurance and fees all while working at a job that barley pays $14 an hour, consumer credit ratings that are at their worst in recent history, as well as the always present instability in the middle east.
...I actually turned on the news today and saw that one of our "allies" (that term is used loosley here) Pakistan is basically under martial law and under threat of basically being taken over by supporters of Osama Bin Laden (can you fucking believe he is STILL alive over 6 YEARS later!???). I don't know what is going on over there, other than the fact that the "leaders" are fucking up royally...this is not the fault of our troops at all, the blame needs to be placed with the clearly incompetent leadership not only in the military aspect of this fight, but the diplomatic aspect as well..
...I used to pay attention religiously to the news and stay updated on current events around the world because obviously, based on the fact we are paying over $3 for gas again, the have a profound effect on our day to day lives...they blame "specualtors" and "futures holders" for the rise in gasoline prices. O'rly? Sure, when 8% of the country owns over 92% of all stock and holdings in the stock market, of course prices are going to rise; a clear case of the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer on what seems now, a daily basis...hmmm let's see, retail sales are down dramatically because people aren't spending or eating nearly as much as they were say 2 or 3 years ago and stockholders made the Dow Jones take almost a 400 point drop last week, and coincidentally the very next week, gas hits $3 a gallon to fuel the stockholders portfolios?...Coincidence?..I think not...
...so this is the trickle down scenerio: Mr and Mrs happy-go-lucky-phony-life-is-great-want-a-Starbucks-hun with the two kids and the dog purchased their brand new dream home in 2005 with a unreal low mortgage payment and cleared cc debt. Mommy can stay home with the kids, and the Father can go out to earn a relativley normal say, $11 an hr job and be comfortable with the way things are going. And what the hell, they went out and purchased that big ass fuel guzzling SUV or Truck to impress the family and neighbors. Fast forward to 2007, then the monthly bills come. OMG, the property taxes on our newly assesed home are WHAT??? It cost $100 to put GAS in the truck?? The credit cards are almost MAXED out from all of the furnishings and purchases from eating out and furnishing the new home??? What are we going to do for the holidays OMG!!!...and to top it all off, the father's "stable" job has a new boss and he doesn't like him and he doesn't have union protection to keep his job, and he can be discarded and replaced at any time....stress much?..wonder why divorce rates, forclosures and bankruptcies are headed toward or are at record levels?...this scenerio, while not my own, is prevelant in many, many families in middle America....startling, isn't it?..
...the real kicker is while there should be outrage about the real problems that are facing people on the news right now, the fucking lame ass liberal CNN and MSNBC are talking about fucking O.J. Simpson and his robbery bullshit again, analyzing it from every fucking point imaginable, wasting hours and hours of what could be much better used news airtime...that's just disgusting and a disrespect to the people that they are supposed to be reporting the real news to....
...at any rate, there is a presidential election in 2008, as well as many regional elections taking place not only right now, but over the course of the next year, if we as a country and a people don't sound off at the polls and express outrage about the real things that are effecting people on a day to day basis, before long we will all be cold, suffering, and looking at gas prices that are the same as an hourly rate of pay at McDonald's....or even worse, wind up working there as a second or third job to earn enough to survive....enough is enough...thanks and feel free to chime in with your thoughts...just needed to vent....
